STEDMAN
Stedman is a welcoming small town in eastern Cumberland County with deep roots in transportation and agriculture. Originally known as Blockersville, the community was named for the family of John C. Blocker and later shortened to Blockers after a stagecoach station and post office were established. The town's future changed with the arrival of the Cape Fear and Yadkin Valley Railroad. Local citizens donated land and labor to secure a railroad station, and in recognition of Nathan A. Stedman's efforts to bring the railroad to the community, the town was renamed in his honor.
Today, Stedman offers visitors a glimpse of small-town North Carolina, where community traditions and rural landscapes remain an important part of daily life. The town's annual Founders Day celebration brings residents and visitors together to celebrate Stedman's heritage, while its convenient location along the eastern edge of Cumberland County provides easy access to outdoor recreation, scenic countryside, and the attractions of the Greater Fayetteville area.
