Cumberland County, NC - According to figures released by Visit North Carolina last week, domestic travel to Cumberland County generated over $601 million in expenditures in 2019 – a 4.72% increase from 2018.  

Tourism expenditures in Cumberland County generated state and local tax revenues of $44.59 million, which represents a $134.14 tax savings to each county resident. Additionally, Cumberland County’s tourism industry employs 4,820 people with a payroll of $115.78 million.

Travel spending in Cumberland County has grown steadily for the last two decades.  “Twenty  years of branding, marketing and tourism strategies have helped tourism be an economic engine for Cumberland County,” says John Meroski, Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (FACVB) president and CEO. “In 1999, visitors spent $241.7 million in Cumberland County. Twenty years later this increased by 148.7%.  Clearly, tourism means business.”

The statistics are from the “Economic Impact of Travel on North Carolina Counties.” The study was prepared for Visit NC by the US Travel Association.
