FACVB acclaims area travel & tourism exceeding pre-pandemic levels
CUMBERLAND COUNTY, N.C. (SEPT. 7, 2022) – According to figures released by Visit North Carolina last week, domestic travel to Cumberland County generated an economic impact of $608.85 million in 2021 – a 35.3 percent increase over COVID-impacted 2020 and an increase of $7 million over 2019.
The travel and tourism industry in the county made a large impact on businesses and individuals alike, accounting for more than 4,550 jobs and $163.2 million in payroll. Additionally, state and local tax revenues to Cumberland County from travel amounted to $46.3 million, which represents a $138.49 tax saving for each household in the county.
“This research shows that tourism and travel spending in Cumberland County is not only getting back to pre-pandemic numbers, but exceeding them,” said Randy Fiveash, Interim President and CEO of the Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (FACVB). “The Fayetteville area’s steady increase in visitors and tourism economic impact year over year illustrates the attractiveness of all the region has to offer to travelers. We are open for business and travel and look forward to seeing these numbers continue to rise year over year.”
This strong economic travel impact ranks Cumberland County 12th among North Carolina’s 100 counties, behind Mecklenburg, Buncombe, Wake, Dare, Durham, and others.
