Fayetteville, NC – Up to 40 boys and girls basketball teams from North and South Carolina, Florida, Virginia, and Georgia are slated to compete at the American Athletic Union (AAU) Veterans Day Classic basketball tournament November 13-14. The tournament, presented by All or Nothing Performance, is being played at Freedom Courts Sportsplex. The tournament is for boys and girls from second grade through eighth grade.
“We picked Fayetteville for this tournament for several reasons,” says Rob Ramsay, Executive Director of All or Nothing Performance. “The community support, a large veteran presence including organizations that support veterans, and the quality of the facilities in Fayetteville make it a perfect location.”
“With players, coaches, family, and friends attending this tournament, the expected attendance is 1,500 people,” says Amy Karpinski, Director of Sports Marketing at the Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (FACVB). “The estimated economic impact from overnight visitors to the community is $27,500.”
Ramsay says veteran recognition will be built in throughout the weekend. “As a veteran, I understand the sacrifices firsthand. I want to teach athletes to appreciate those who have served and help them understand they can play the sports they love because of the sacrifices of brave men and women.”
Veteran organizations will be in attendance to showcase ways athletes, their families, and communities can support veterans.
After the colors are presented and veterans are recognized each morning at 8:30 am, games begin at 9 am. Spectators are welcome. A weekend pass for an adult is $30 and $20 for a student. Freedom Courts Sportsplex is located at 3126 Gillespie Street in Fayetteville.
