Cumberland County, NC - According to figures released by Visit North Carolina this week, domestic travel to Cumberland County generated over $525 million in expenditures in 2016 – a 4.21% increase from 2015.
Tourism expenditures in Cumberland County generated state and local tax revenues of $39.62 million, which represents a $120.86 tax savings to each county resident. Additionally, Cumberland County’s tourism industry employs 4,540 people with a payroll of $98.41 million.
Travel spending in Cumberland County has grown steadily for the last 15 years.
“Fifteen years of branding, marketing and tourism strategies have helped tourism be an economic engine for Cumberland County,” says John Meroski, Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (FACVB) president and CEO. “In 2001, visitors spent $245.99 million in Cumberland County. Today they spend 114% more than they did in ‘01. Clearly, tourism means business.”
The statistics are from the “Economic Impact of Travel on North Carolina Counties.” The study was prepared for Visit NC by the US Travel Association.
