Cumberland County, NC - According to figures released by Visit North Carolina in August, domestic travel to Cumberland County generated over $504 million in expenditures in 2015 – a 2.86% increase from 2014.
Tourism expenditures in Cumberland County generated state and local tax revenues of $37.84 million, which represents a $116.83 tax savings to each county resident. Additionally Cumberland County’s tourism industry employs 4,400 people with a payroll of $93.15 million.
Travel spending in Cumberland County has grown steadily for the last 15 years.
“Fifteen years of branding, marketing and tourism strategies have helped tourism be an economic engine for Cumberland County,” says John Meroski, Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (FACVB) president and CEO. “In 2001, visitors spent $246 million in Cumberland County. Today they spend 104% more than they did in ‘01. Clearly, tourism means business.”
The statistics are from the “Economic Impact of Travel on North Carolina Counties.” The study was prepared for Visit NC by the US Travel Association.
