Weekend Escape

Fayetteville, NC, offers amazing choices for a quick romantic getaway. From delectable food to R&R activities, here are just a few options that will help you unwind and reconnect.

1st Day (Friday evening)

  • Evening Arrival: Venture out of the lodging norm and check out two of Fayetteville’s B&Bs, Byrne’s Mill Place and The MacPherson House. Both options will make you feel at home as they offer homemade breakfast … but you don’t have to do the dishes.
  • Evening: Tonight, it’s all about unwinding, so we recommend making reservations at one of the locally-owned restaurants in town. Enjoy dinner at Luigi’s Italian Chophouse. The menu is extensive, but we suggest that you try out one of the pasta dishes with a creamy sauce of choice. Another locally owned dinner option is Chris’s Steak House, where tradition meets flavor. The wide variety of steak and fresh-caught seafood, along with a romantic ambiance, will set the tone for a great weekend.

2nd Day (Saturday)

  • Morning: One perk of staying in a B&B is that you can enjoy breakfast on-site, which means you won’t feel rushed in the mornings. If you do choose to venture out, local coffee shops are always a good starting place. Vagabond Café serves up a variety of specialty coffee and handcrafted drinks. Grab a cup of joe and stroll the sidewalks of downtown, where you might catch a Farmer’s Market happening, plus there is art around every corner.  Stop by the Art Council to snap a selfie at the mural or at the sculpture out front. Don’t miss the murals that bring the buildings to life on the side streets. Snap a memory of your trip!
  • Afternoon: Time to add a little adventure to the mix! ZipQuest Waterfall and Treetop is more than your average zipline.  Experience nature from new heights and soar over the treetops and waterfall. While enjoying the outdoors, you might want to take a more casual approach. The Cape Fear River Trail winds for nearly 5 miles amid luscious greenery with breathtaking views of the river. Don’t worry if you did not bring your own bike; Hawley’s Bicycle World can provide a rental for you. Make sure to call ahead to reserve your bikes. Make a pit stop at the Depot Train Station Subway to grab lunch on the go.
  • Dinner: Time to settle down from the day and enjoy a casual dinner and drinks. The historic Hilltop House in Haymount is home to the District House of Taps. With many rooms to gather, you can have a drink in the Lounge, relax on the outdoor patio or grab a table for dinner. This restaurant has 40 self-pour taps for you to choose from. It’s a unique experience in and of itself. Check out the Hometown Hops Brewery page at DistinctlyFayettevilleNC.com. Most are located within minutes from each other, so grab an Uber and get a taste of Fayetteville. For a low-key after-dinner adventure, check out Stop Button Bar & Arcade. Located in Hope Mills, this unique establishment allows you to play arcade games free of charge with a one-time membership of only $10. You can also play retro games at the bars. Tonight, nostalgia is the name of the game.

3rd Day (Sunday)

  • Morning: Enjoy breakfast at the B&B before soaking in one last adventure for Sunday Funday.
  • Afternoon: Dirtbag Ales Brewery and Taproom has its own vibe. Take a seat at one of the handmade tables and enjoy one of the many craft beers on the menu. They are the ideal location to eat, drink and relax. It’s kid and dog friendly, so the atmosphere is great for a low-key Sunday adventure before hitting the road. Napkins, an on-site food truck, offers their famous Smash Burgers plus wings and snacks. Thursday through Sunday you will find a line of food trucks offering up lunch options. Check out their event calendar for live music schedules, information on the Farmer’s Market, as well as Yoga & Beer.
